Where better to spend the Jubilee holiday Monday...

...than Balmoral?

:0)

The post last week was of course made from the summit at the time, but I think on any view "liveblogging" is more exciting for the blogger than the reader. And it's not exciting for the blogger.

In all events, me, Andy and Colin had a rather good wander round the "classic" White Mounth circuit last Monday. Eighteen miles, about 1200 metres of ascent, and five Munros. I'd done the route almost exactly four years ago (without troubling the summit of Carn an t-Sagairt Mor though) and the overwhelming impression that time was the same as this. You don't feel as if you've done an awful lot of climbing, but it's a long, long walk alongside Loch Muick back to the car.

This is as good a route description as any.

And Smugmug has a new - well, new to me - photie display facility - so yet more technology testing arises from the trip!

  1. A fantastic walk that's still on my to do list. Been to all the tops but in three seperate trips so I can understand why the climbing seems less and the walking more. For me it was the opposite way round!! Great photos as well, looks a grand day out.........J

  2. It helps that I've been lucky with the weather twice on Lochnagar - takes the edge off the distance! Mind you, the time I did Carn an t-Sagairt Mor from the other end (from Auchallater) the blizzards rather made up for it. One of the colder hill days I can remember, put it that way.

  3. My legs are aching reading this, Scott. I've done them in two walks – but one . . .

    1. I was trying to persuade myself on the walk out that it was downhill all the way, but when you can see how far "all the way" actually is, it doesn't help much.
